It’s a story of a girl dreaming of a fuller life. With the help of a kind stranger, she has to overcome her fears. Her trepidations may appear absurd but are far more serious in their nature.

John's first independent work from 1989. Won Best of Fest Shorts at the Cinequest Film Festival, CA. The film is comprised of highly rendered drawings with very little moving parts to tell a complex story of relationships "gone to the birds".

What follows is a series of absurd, slapstick-inspired events—breaking a decorative bust, accidentally putting a fish in the June’s drink—that culminate in Cal posing shirtless on her indoor “beach” set, sparking June's creative epiphany and leading her to photograph him for a Vogue ad campaign. This short film was created in 1987 under the mentorship of Martin Scorsese while Gruber was a student at Columbia Film School, and has since earned a place in exhibitions at New York’s MoMA, cementing its status as a noteworthy artistic work.

This short film is a diploma of a student of the Higher Art School of Vaclav Gollar. Its main theme is dreams, so the plot immerses the viewer in a fantastic world, devoid of the traditional logic of everyday life. The film uses several typical dream motifs that usually provoke panic in the sleepers. The characters find themselves in uncomfortable situations, and as the story progresses, the drama of the events increases more and more, exacerbating the chaos.
