Kuo Hsiang (Kaori), daughter of a tea merchant in 1947 Twatiutia, appears in 2014 modern Taipei. Having no idea what brought her here, Kaori only knows that it is the day when Guangdong Yi-Jen Yuan Chinese Opera Troupe reunited for a local Chinese Opera in Yung-Le-Tso Theatre after Taiwan Restoration.

The Guest is a modern dark fable starring Olivia Williams (Rushmore, Sixth Sense, An Education) and with an original score by Tom Hobden of Noah and the Whale. A graduate, Matthieu, turns up to his old professor's dinner party to discover he is the only guest. Marguerite, the professor's wife, ignores her husband in favour of devoting her full attention to Matthieu. As the evening progresses it becomes clear the couple are concealing a dark secret. Matthieu's curiosity gets the better of him.

In the period 1891-1927, Henriette Roland Holst goes through a dramatic development. As an aspiring poet from an affluent bourgeois milieu she throws herself, full with idealism and conviction, into the labour movement. Within the various socialistic parties however, a fierce battle on direction takes place, wherein Henriette has trouble finding her place. After returning disillusioned from a trip to the Soviet Union, she does not feel at home in any leftist party. Later she will recollect on this period in her biography "Het vuur brandde voort" (translation: "The fire rages on"). The film reconstructs this period with the use of old film material combined with texts by Henriette Roland Holst herself: fragments from letters, poems, speeches and books, sparingly supplemented with personal commentary by the filmmaker.

She thinks he is cheating. In reality he is not, he is in love with his partner. She suffers from sleepwalking... he tries to create a comfortable atmosphere, tries to protect her and prevent harm. She does not remember anything from the night. During the day they are like two strangers, they argue and avoid each other. In the last scene, she reacts annoyed at the touch of his hand... but he remains there still, unmoved, saying nothing and accepting.

This short piece by Athina Rachel Tsangari, commissioned for the seventieth edition of the Venice Film Festival in 2013, draws on Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt" and functions as a meditation on the state of cinema, depicting two film projectors contemplating the uncertainty of their future.
