‘La course à l’abîme’ is a depiction of the final ride into hell from ‘La Damnation de Faust’ (1846) by Hector Berlioz.

Lecherous high school boy Hanahei Yamada, called Hanappe for his sexual inexperience, is visited by two demons who come out from his TV (after he accidentally writes "abracadabra" while stroking his...you know) that immediately control his entire family: the rocket launcher-wielding Ophisto Bazooka takes his mother as a bed-buddy, and the furry yet fatal Mephisto Dance conjures all the money his dad can dream of while seducing his sister into sapphic lust. After these two entities of occultic evil have assimilated themselves and all their hellish friends into Hanappe's life, they've granted him only the most corrupting demonic powers any man dreams of...but will this clumsy demigod of a kid be able to handle a fantastic phallic pointer finger, superhuman strength, and the grotesque sexually-tinged situations that await him!?

The aged philosopher refuses to accept until the devil shows him a vision of Marguerite in all her maiden simplicity and beauty. Faust agrees to accept the compact providing Mephistopheles will give him youth, wealth and love.

Cubby the Bear sneaks into the Roxy Opera House on it's opening night and ends up condicting an epic, animal-enacted version of Faust.

Melies second attempt at telling the story of Faust. This time out Faust and his love Marguerite are sentenced to Hell where they are showed the torture that awaits.

An oppressive droning score makes this rendering of the Faust legend quite disturbing to watch. The film itself consists of a number of impressive ‘appearing out of thin air’ effects, some lavish costumes, sets and backdrops. A climactic sword fight between a man and the Devil is a standout scene.

A lost film. Georges Méliès also directed a film entitled Faust aux enfers in 1903 that is frequently confused with this one, but it has little to do with the story of Faust.
