Monkey Business

The stooges are auto mechanics who need money so they can marry their girls. When some escaped convicts pull into their garage, the boys manage to capture them and use the reward money to marry their sweethearts. It appears to be an early attempt at 3D with the closeups and effects used.

An egret, frozen by the winter weather, moves into Pluto's doghouse. Pluto, cold and tired, takes a while to realize his doghouse is moving around without him. Even when he does realize, though, he has a hard time dislodging the interloper.

The selfishness of the bourgeoisie and the dull passivity of its servants are the theme of this puppet animation presenting the tragicomedy of a society in its death throes, taking refuge in absurd behaviour.

Another of the "Variety Views" continuing adventures with Shorty the Chimp getting loose and running amok. Tired of waiting at the fire house for a blaze, Shorty sets one in the building himself. At another fire, Shorty makes a jungle-style rescue by climbing hand-over-hand on wires leading into a building.

Two boys, twins, leave the old homestead to seek their fortune in the world. They go divergent roads, and are soon widely separated one from the other, but they grow lonesome and try to find each other's whereabouts, without success. We lose sight of Bill and Dick is seen up against it good and hard. For him the future looks like a chalk ring on a blackboard, until he happens to saunter along the Bowery, where the manager of a dime museum offers him a job to play the gorilla. It looks good so he accepts. It is pretty sort until the astute impresario decides to pull off an innovation: that is, a gorilla and lion in the same cage. Of course Dick objects most strenuously to this arrangement, but his objections are quailed with a treacherous looking run, so he is forced to share the same menagerie hallroom with the lion.

Oliver has a mid-life crisis, and decides to get married - to himself. This is the story of his relationship, and how he discovers some truths about life and love on the way.

Acting on the Darwin theory, that man descended from a monkey, a scientist experiments towards turning man back to the monkey stage. He inoculates a number of persons with the preparation and after the subjects reach their homes the reversing process begins, and they become monkified. Their antics are uproariously funny. The scientist is unable to turn them back to human beings again, so they are collected in a large cage and places on exhibition. Here they are visited by an ape dressed in human attire. Thusly begins a slapstick farce that involves two dumb New York cops, with cockney accents, a menacing butler who also tells fortunes, and a gorilla who drives a motorcycle and pilots an airplane.

Jerry and Tuffy lead the quest to thanksgiving. All the sudden, Tom sneaks into the dinning room to destroy Jerry and Tuffy. So, Jerry, Tuffy and Tom battle over thanksgiving. In the end, Jerry, Tuffy and Tom would agree to eat the whole turkey but Tuffy decides to ate the whole turkey.

Donald and his nephews are the staff of a fire station. Huey, Dewey, and Louie, annoyed by Donald's snoring, ring the fire alarm. Soon, his bumbling sets the fire station itself on fire. They race off at the alarm, not realizing they are already at the destination, and the firefighting efforts go downhill from there.

Three hitchhiking, hobo chimpanzees, followers of the open road and work-dodgers are put to work on Oswald Rabbit's farm in payment for pies stolen from the hard-working rabbit. The simians find it hard to milk a cow, paint a house and haul water from the well.

Canadian filmmaker Gerald Potterton utilizes extensive footage from the Soviet adventure film Dr. Abolit in his Tiki Tiki. Abolit boards a rocket with two monkeys and blasts off into space, bent on rescuing a group of monkey kids from extraterrestrial bandits. Framing the live-action storyline are a few animated cartoon sequences involving the efforts of a producer to sell his concept to an apelike movie mogul. This device works as effectively here as it did thirty years earlier in W.C. Fields' Never Give a Sucker an Even Break. As a payoff, the studio boss is revealed to be King Kong, who sees a lot of potential in a story about heroic simians. (allmovie.com)
