Raja lives a wealthy lifestyle with his somewhat upper Caste Hindu, eccentric, woman-hating dad, Hazurdas, and mom. He is friendly with Kishore, and both are aspiring doctors. On their way to college, they meet with two young women, Rani Mehra and Kamini.

Mohit, a young man raised into beliving in fairy tales, comes to Bombay to find Manisha, a young woman whom he saved from drowning in a lake near his village, whom he belives to be an actual mermaid princess.

Kishan Oberoi has three sons - Dilip, Ashish, and Raj. While Dilip and Ashish are married, Raj (Govinda) is in love with Meena. Kishan does not trust his two elder sons, but trusts Raj, and Raj in turn, is devoted to his dad. One day Raj loses his mind in an accident, and the two elder brothers begin a conspiracy that includes the death of their dad, and the disinheritance of their brother Raj, by declaring him mentally incompetent. Raj mysteriously disappears, and Kishan falls off a building; Murari, a greedy employee of the Oberoi family, brings in a look-alike of Raj, namely Banne Khan (also Govinda), and his wife, Salma Khan, who poses as his nurse, so that Banne Khan and Murari both rule over the Oberoi family, and reap the benefits.

Gopika Sharma lives a middle-classed lifestyle along with her widowed mother in Bangalore. She expresses a desire to sing and is encouraged by her maternal uncle, Dubey, who takes her with him to Bombay along with her maid, Lajjo. Once there, they are molested and Dubey goes missing. They then attempt to find a decent place to live, and after many frustrations make an agreement with a single male, Kishankumar Shukla, who poses as Gopika's husband, and move into an apartment owned by Lala Dhaniram.

Freelance photographer, Alok Prakash, while photographing women hockey players in action, is hit by the puck, loses his senses and his hospitalized. His brother-in-law, a lawyer by the name of Prem Sagar, decides to capitalize on this accident, and to sue Alok's employer for a large sum of money, so that they can live comfortably for the rest of their lives. He explains his plan to Alok, and asks the rest of the family also to go on with this charade - with hilarious results - that will change their lives forever.

Roopa lives a wealthy lifestyle with her widowed dad, Captain Suresh, and brother, Shekhar. After she returns from abroad, she is told that she must now prepare to get married to her betrothed, Ratan, who is the son of a close friend of Suresh. Everything changes suddenly when Roopa meets with a handsome young man, Raj, and both fall in love with each other.

Haridwar-based Neelkanth Pandey and Shambhu Nath get their children, Bhagwantiprasad and Parvati respectively, married. Whille Shambhu re-locates to live in Bombay, Neelkanth continues to reside in the same residence. Years later both children have grown up, so Neelkanth invites the Naths to finalize the nuptials. Very soon the Pandeys will face humiliation and ridicule at the hands of Parvati, who now calls herself Pamela, and Shambhu, who wants his daughter to marry someone sophisticated and wealthy, while Parvati is in love with a singer named Rocky. Bhagwanti is determined to fulfill his parents' wishes and decides to stay wed to Parvati, re-locates to Bombay, to try and woo her back - with results that will end up changing his life forever.

Dr Samir is an absolute charmer when it comes to women, but he poses as a married man to keep them at bay. Love becomes a three-ring-circus for him after he ends up tangled in his web of lies with his girlfriend Sonia and pretend wife Naina.
