On the Edge

Tells the life story of Danish author Karen Blixen, who at the beginning of the 20th century moved to Africa to build a new life for herself. The film is based on her 1937 autobiographical novel.

One out of three silent adaptations of the novella "Les quatre diables" written by Danish author Herman Bang. The most famous one, although unfortunately lost, is without any doubt F.W. Murnau's "4 Devils". This German version, by Danish director A.W. Sandberg, was done eight years prior to Murnau's American one, and was a big success at the time.

A romantic comedy set in the world of gambling, debt collecting and professional boxing. Laura is an unlucky gambler with a huge debt, she crosses paths with Claus, a former boxer who now makes a living as a debt collector. Laura is cheating, scamming, and lying and eventually life catches up with her. Claus is trying to regain his self respect and start anew. Together, they make an awkward but very charming couple on the verge of love. It is a story about trust, friendship, new beginnings, getting a second chance and doing the right thing.

Whereas in the suburbs, a football team prepares for the big outing - of one of its players. The slightly self-indulgent artist Thorvald collapses during an interview made in celebration of his 80th birthday and dies shortly after. But in spite of his death Thorvald can still follow those left behind. From a distance, and for better or worse, he sees with his own eyes the imprint he has left on his family and especially his son Vincent, who had a strained relationship with his father.

The film is about the animality that lies latent in the act of sex, and focuses on love and eroticism as a bodily, transcending act. Love and the experience of loss is given concrete physical expression in the film through blood, vomit, sweat and tears. wonderful "Rupture" is far from the more progressive action of a classic film, it is built around an atmospheric intensification that gradually builds to finally release. Both in the action and on the sound side, the film uncovers extreme moods from the swaying, meditative to the uncomfortable and transgressing.
