The first film in Vlatko Gilić’s Sisyphean trilogy, Homo sapiens follows a suited man as he takes a trek back and forth across a sandy desert to fill an oversized barrel using a woefully small tub of water. Shot in stark black and white and edited to achieve a dreamlike quality, the man’s devotion to this task is tested and taunted by a young couple that frolics around the barrel.

This documentary interweaves celluloid and voice recordings by Maya Deren, and colleagues who knew her firsthand: Jean Rouch, Jonas Mekas, Alexander Hammid, Cecile Starr etc. Maya Deren (1917-1961) was an experimental filmmaker. In the 1940s and 1950s she made several influential avant-garde films, such as Meshes of the Afternoon (1943). Images from this and her other work are used in this documentary. You can also hear her voice, as well as accounts by contemporaries such as Jean Rouch and Jonas Mekas.

Artist Statement: "Lovesick" is an abstract analysis of idealization, objectification, and the Other; a dark fantasy peering into how we view and explore the complex darkness of human sexuality.

"There will be no winters" - a film consisting of 14 short novels, each with its own plot and a musical theme. In fact, this is a screen version of the same album of Russian avant-garde singer Leonid Fedorov.

The film was made in one take over a period of four hours, using a manual time-lapse facility on a Sony PD170 DV Camera. It was shot up in the Faroe Islands whilst looking down onto the small village of Tjornuvík. The voice over is an ode to Andrew Kötting's dead father, which was written and recorded earlier in the morning in one of the small Faroese crofts that the camera looks down upon.

Kinkón (1971), a silent adaptation of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack’s 1933 classic, King Kong. Zulueta re-filmed a television broadcast of the original, and through creative subtraction and manipulation of camera speed, condensed the original’s feature length to an intensified seven minutes. The cathode-ray flicker and flattening that results from the re-filming defamiliarises the original, but its classical continuity mode of address continues to operate on the viewer, and the increase in velocity makes mesmerisingly urgent the dramatic plot of the original. —Senses of Cinema

Filmed before his feature-length Arrebato, Zulueta’s Frank Stein is a personal reading of horror cult classic Frankenstein (1931), filmed directly from its television broadcast and reducing Whale’s original to only three packed and dizzying minutes, during which the film's sensitive monster evolves at an unusual rate.

Saturated colors and X-ray imagery swirl and bounce through wide eyed and frantic characters in a play of animation techniques, video overlays and stylized trippy imagery. An original experimental animation utilizing both stop motion and digital techniques to create mesmerizing sequences.

Portrait of Costa da Morte (coast region in Galicia, Spain) from an ethnographic and landscape level, exploring also the collective imagination associated with the area. A region marked by strong oceanic feeling dominated by the historical conception of world's end and with tragic shipwrecks. Fragmentary film that approaches to the anthropological from its protagonists: sailors, shellfish, loggers, farmers ... A selection of characters representative of the traditional work carried out in the countryside in the region, allowing us to reflect on the influence of the environment on people.

The second entry in Velu Viswanadhan's series of experimental documentaries. This film traces the Ganges river upstream.

This film is made by some beautiful and unique alchemical transformations of the film material itself. It is a visual expedition into the world of matter, which shows the bizarre richness of the smallest particles floating in the film emulsion. The crystals' constantly changing structures, enriched by the textures, bring about an almost tactile experience, a visual expression of its own base matter.(Jürgen Reble)
