A woman returns to her home town to sort out her troubled marriage and finds new happiness in the rekindling of a broken friendship with her cousin.

Chlodwig Pullmann is a tax inspector and is involved in a thousand little deals and tricks - with the knowledge of Mayor Karsten Leimer, who has a lot more dirt on him. Pullmann's wife Jenny, on the other hand, fights against corruption in a citizens' initiative and is of course not allowed to know anything about her husband's deviations.
