"Kon-Tiki" was the name of a wooden raft used by six Scandinavian scientists, led by Thor Heyerdahl, to make a 101-day journey from South America to the Polynesian Islands. The purpose of the expedition was to prove Heyerdal's theory that the Polynesian Islands were populated from the east- specifically Peru- rather than from the west (Asia) as had been the theory for hundreds of years. Heyerdahl made a study of the winds and tides in the Pacific, and by simulating conditions as closely as possible to those he theorized the Peruvians encountered, set out on the voyage.

Frank Flynn is summonsed from New York by his brother Charlie to Vanuatu. He arrives only to find Charlie dead, and becomes involved with his late brother's partner, Viv, and Viv's unhappy wife, Anna.

Upon speaking with the island’s inhabitants, they soon discover the Marines had actually been massacred by a group of Lycanthropes, known to most as WEREWOLVES.

Nuie is an uplifted coral island, a tiny speck in the middle of the South pacific. It is on the migratory path of the great Humpback Whales. In the crystal water these giants rise up to breathe beside the divers, some with new born calves. The Rocky island is home to a unique species of venomous sea snakes, that come ashore to lay their eggs. They have never bitten an islander, yet, and become part of their lore. In Snake Gully Ben Cropp meets these snakes in their hundreds, they sleep en masse in every crevice, and the traffic is like pitt street when they surface for air every half hour. When you swim at Nuie, you swim with snakes.

A baby is washed up on a Pacific Island and is adopted by a childless woman. The tribal priest takes an instant dislike to the child, proclaiming him a demon. The child is deaf and mute and therefore excluded from hunting with the other young men. Out of loneliness, he befriends a white turtle. When a drought befalls the island, the priest blames the silent one. When the chief protects the boy, the priest plots the chiefs' downfall.

US-Navy pilot Lt. Richard Tabor crash-lands on a south Pacific isle called Love Island in English. Richard befriends the Balinese beauty Sarna. The bad and jealous Jaraka doesn't like their friendship, so he has Sarna's father Aryuna arrested on a vague charge. Jaraka tells Aryuna that he only will be released when his daughter marries him.

Johnny Lingo, one of the sharpest traders in the south pacific islands decides to bargain for a wife, and offers a record price of eight cows for Mahana, a plain girl who shuns contact. This causes quite a sensation on the island. A year later Johnny and his wife return for the first time since the marriage, and all find that something miraculous has occurred to Mahana. Johnny explains that by paying eight cows he proved that she was worth more to him than any other woman on the island. He gave her a great gift, that of self-worth.
