Makino works for Kayosho, a Japanese curio dealer in America. To reward Makino's dedication, Kayosho sends for Toki-ye, a picture bride. Upon arrival, she is married to Makino in a civil ceremony. However, Kayosho intends to keep Toki-ye for himself. This angers Goto, another employee. Kayosho was betrothed to Goto's niece, Hana. One day Kayosho is found dead in a pool.

Olympe is a cabaret dancer who offers her services to France when her country goes to war. She becomes a spy and provides valuable intelligence information during World War I by winning the confidence of a German officer. Hugh Warren is the American soldier who falls for Olympe. She allows him to believe she is a simple peasant and reveals nothing of her career as a spy. The two fall in love and are married, but the villainous German agent De Montinrich reveals to her husband's family that she is a tawdry club dancer. Unable to reveal her role in espionage, Olympe is ostracized by her friends and family. When the French government honors Olympe for her wartime bravery, her family no longer considers her a blemish on their sterling reputation.

He meets and falls in love with Lillian (Lillian Peacock), the banker's daughter. In his night-watchman/janitor job he keeps a gang of safe-crackers from cleaning out the bank, is given a big reward and marries Lillian. He then returns home to spurn Perscilla, pays off the mortgage and demands the best room in the house for he and his bride.

Incidents depicted in the life of Joseph of Canaan include: the conspiracy of his brothers to sell him into slavery and strip him of the coat of many colors given to him by his father Jacob; Jacob's grief upon seeing the torn coat and hearing from the brothers that Joseph died under a lion's claw; Joseph's hardships as a slave; his arrival in Egypt; his life as a slave in the house of Potiphar, an Egyptian official, whose wife Zelikah tries to seduce Joseph; his imprisonment; his prophecy, which comes true, telling of life for one fellow prisoner and death for another; his interpretation for the Pharoah of the dream of the seven lean and seven fat kine; the seven years of famine in Egypt; and the reconciliation with his father, brothers, their wives and children in Egypt.

Philip de Mornay, a courtier in the French royal court of the 18th century, falls in love with Daphne La Tour, the daughter of a nobleman. Knowing that her family would never approve of their marriage, he takes her and hides her in a brothel, but is soon captured by pirates. Soldiers looking for women to bring with them to a settlement across the ocean in Louisiana raid the brothel and take the girls, including Daphne. Later on the trip to the new world their ship is attacked by pirates--and she discovers that her lover Philip is on board the pirate ship.
