“Of the Wild Black Dog” is a self-portrait based on a few dreams, shot with a super 8mm camera in Syria and Germany.

During the 4 years following this process, Adel and his family travel from country to country in search of a home, they lie on the streets and face hunger and disease. However, their life will change completely one day with the message they receive from a Greek-based refugee organization; A small Scandinavian country, which they had never heard of before, accepted Adel and her family as temporary citizens. Now Adel has to learn to adapt to the cold climate and distant society of Estonia, while healing the wounds of the past.

With the end of the “Peace Process” in 2015, I witnessed the conflict that broke out between the PKK and government forces in the Sur region of Diyarbakır. I was a freelance journalist at that time, witnessing this terrible event caused me a trauma. Years later, I turned these images in my archive into a documentary. I prepared this documentary by reflecting on the witness, migration and urban memory. It was very sad to take such bad footage with my camera. After these images, the Sur region was demolished, and absurd houses are now being built instead of demolished houses.

Ufuk and Ömer are two imaginative brothers, 10-11 years old, living with their parents in a rural area near the border.
