Jun Hashimoto is a sci-fi novel writer, but he isn't popular at all. He lives off of his savings. One day, his editor Tateyama assigns him a job: he is to write a "love" themed short story for a web magazine oriented towards youths. At first Jun refuses, because he has never written a love story before, but Tateyama pushes him to write one. The deadline is imminent. Jun's childhood friend Keisuke Murata then appears in front of him. Jun complains to Keisuke that he can't write, but while talking to him, he comes up with an idea.

Summer 1996. While chasing after a bicycle thief, Yang Xi hurts her leg and therefore can’t participate in the long-distance run to earn some bonus points for the college entrance exam anymore. When school starts again, Yang Xi not only has to discover that the offender is her new classmate Hua Biao, but he even snatches away her position as class monitor. The entire class considers the hot-blooded and impulsive newcomer Hua Biao who is gifted in sciences as their enemy. Hua Biao, however, proves them wrong as he continuously helps his classmates out. Hwan confronts his own feelings by staying with the other boys. As he spends time with them, he starts to like Songju-si and genuinely wishes for these days to continue forever.

The Tokyo Friends Premium Box was also released which includes all 5 episodes, a bonus DVD, and 12 postcards. Although this is a very typical Tokyo-story and was never aired on TV, it was quite successful probably because it was Ai Otsuka's debut as an actress.
