The Masked Singer NZ is a reality singing competition where 12 celebrities compete against each other in song. The contestants are masked head-to-toe in extravagant costumes, which completely conceal their identities. With the help of some clever clues along the way, New Zealanders and the celebrity guessing panel will have to try to work out which well known celebrity is hiding behind the mask!

Battle Dome was a syndicated American television series that aired from September 1999 to April 2001. It combined elements of American Gladiators - inspired athletic competition with scripted antics more reminiscent of professional wrestling. Recurring character-athletes known as "Warriors" competed against weekly contestants in a variety of physically demanding events. The series was filmed at the Los Angeles Sports Arena and produced by Columbia TriStar Television. Two players each compete to find the top seven answers of a survey or a list from a board of twelve possible answers. The winning player advances to a final round where they can win up to ¥16,000 in cash/prizes by finding the five answers that were not among the top seven of a survey from the same board, and if they score enough, they can earn a ticket to the Tournament of Champions (Season 4).

Pros vs. Joes is an American physical reality game show that airs on Spike TV. The show features male amateur contestants matching themselves against professional athletes in a series of athletic feats related to the expertise sport of the Pro they are facing. For its first three seasons, the show was hosted by Petros Papadakis. Since Season Four, it has been co-hosted by Michael Strahan and Jay Glazer. The first two seasons were filmed at Carson, California's Home Depot Center, which was referenced in aerial shots.

The Crystal Maze was a British game show, produced by Chatsworth Television and shown on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom between 15 February 1990 and 10 August 1995. The series is set in "The Crystal Maze", which features four different "zones" set in various periods of time and space. A team of six contestants take part in a series of challenges in order to win "time crystals". Each crystal gives the team five seconds of time inside "The Crystal Dome", the centrepiece of the maze where the contestants take part in their final challenge.

The Generation Game was a British game show produced by the BBC in which four teams of two competed to win prizes. The programme was first broadcast in 1971 under the title Bruce Forsyth and the Generation Game and ran until 1982, and again from 1990 until 2002. The show was based on the Dutch TV show Een van de acht, "One of the Eight", the format devised in 1969 by Theo Uittenbogaard for VARA Television. Mrs. Mies Bouwman - a popular Dutch talk show host and presenter of the show - came up with the idea of the conveyor belt. She had seen it on a German programme and wanted to incorporate it into the show. Another antecedent for the gameshow was 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium' on ATV, which had a game called Beat the Clock, taken from an American gameshow. It featured married couples playing silly games within a certain time to win prize money. This was hosted by Bruce Forsyth from 1958, and he took the idea with him when he went over to the BBC.
