Through the trance state that awakens the inner gaze, Evelia's anima connects with the anima mundi. Simonetta's eyes is about the memory that a person will leave behind; Evelia tells the viewer, with the language of the gaze: "one day, we will only be memory".

Set during the Meiji reformation era in a small village in Kyushu, Japan. The story revolves around a young boy named Izana and a blind woman named Takiri, the two encounter the large monster Nebula who since ancient times was feared as the god of lake Amenosagiri. Theme of the film focuses on the Japanese concept of light and darkness, as told by puppetry and model miniaturization of the films’ world with practical special effects by Keizo Murase.

In the underworld, demons do not sleep. The moon keeps them awake. Most avoid the harsh moonlight and catch what little rest they can. One demon decides to skate through the underworld to reach the moon. This demon will eat the moon and free itself.
