Living Dead to hell and back

Three very modern adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories. Two old-time pulp writers get together to spin some horrific yarns, only they don't know they are caught up in a horror story of their own making.

While Suzaki Saika (Ashida Mana) is hospitalised for poor health, her father, Tamotsu (Totsugi Shigeyuki) feels torn that he has to leave here and go on a business trip. A portrait of Saika’s late mother is placed beside her bed. Her mother had died in exchange for bringing her into this world. Tamotsu puts a paper with his mobile phone number written on it inside an amulet and hands it to Saika. He asks the nurse Tokunaga Maki (Minamisawa Nao) to keep an eye on Saika, and leaves for his trip. One night, a young girl calls out to a lonely Saika who cannot get to sleep. A long-haired girl in a wheelchair in the old wing befriends Saika and plays with her everyday. However, by the time Saika realises it, she has awaken from her sleep. Was that a dream? When she talks about the girl in the wheelchair, Maki’s expression freezes. What happened at this hospital?

Yoshida, a former parliamentarian's secretary, took the fall for a murder in place of the trusted politician and ended up in prison. He awaited the day when the said politician would prove his innocence and get him released from prison. One day, while sharing a four-person cell, Machida was sent to solitary confinement for losing his temper. There were rumors within the prison that those sent to solitary confinement for punishment would mysteriously die and never return. However, Machida came back unharmed. Yet, the rumors continued, stating that returning from solitary confinement without a mysterious death was the real issue.

Forty years after the infamous house was destroyed, the town has built an apartment complex on the same property. Strange occurrences and disturbances start happening at each of the residences.

Night Kaleidoscope transforms Edinburgh's cobbled backstreets into a dark dreamscape brimming with supernatural menace. With abilities depleting, he must take powerful drugs to induce his visions and track down a pair of vampires terrorising the cities night population.

Vargtimmen—After a Scene by Ingmar Bergman is the exact reconstruction of a scene in Bergman’s 1968 film of the same name. Frame for frame, Georg Tiller and his cameraman Claudio Pfeifer reproduced the same shots—with the crucial difference that no actors are visible. All we see are the ocean and cliffs in black and white, steep rock formations, and with them the quiet surface of the water, ruffled slightly by the breeze. The soundtrack, which had no dialogue in the original either, was taken from the first film and adds narrative structure to the lonely landscape. While in Vargtimmen Bergman concentrated on the faces of people, the focus of Tiller’s film experiment is space, and nature.

Jack is poor, lonely and desperate to change his life. So when he's offered the chance to join an Arctic expedition, he jumps at it.
