Based on the most well-known classical fantasy novel of China, Fengshenyanyi, the trilogy is a magnificent eastern high fantasy epic that recreates the prolonged mythical wars between humans, immortals and monsters, which happened more than three thousand years ago.

Jin Tieyi has been learning martial arts from his master Zhang Tianxi since he was a child, and has practiced martial arts with Tianxi's children Wenlan and Daxiong. One day, Tieyi followed his master's order to travel around the world. On the way, he was attacked by corpses in a strange temple. Fortunately, he was saved by the Taoist Leng Tianhun. Tianhun and Tianxi were enemies, so he pretended to accept Tieyi as his apprentice and use him.

A robber named Zhang Kui hid in a coffin to avoid the authorities before being transported to another associate. Instead of joining his friend in a major robbery, Zhang Kui ran away together with wife and daughter. Zhang failed to escape, but his daughter would train as a marital artist until she can take revenge for her father.

Golden Sparrow is a fighter-for-hire who has been contracted by the local government to retrieve the governor's kidnapped son.
