You Could Have Seen The Mona Lisa

The author's personal confession. This essay film about the relationship between father and son is filmed exclusively in 16mm film in Prague, Slovenia, India, England and France. An important component of Brajnik's film narration is the musical composition and accompanying voiceover of the artist's alter ego.

A quote from the Swedish writer Thorild : "To think freely is great ! To think correctly is greater."Sentences which ring like thoughts. A bookseller, a flea market, drunken students and avant-garde musicians... The film was shot in the university town of Uppsala. "Wanting to do something "new" at any cost can lead to quite a bit of nonsense."

Aquela Mesma Estação

Bas Jan Ader rides his bike into a canal in Amsterdam.

This short film is part of a mixed media artwork of the same name, which also included postcards of Ader crying, sent to friends of his, with the title of the work as a caption. The film was initially ten minutes long, and included Ader rubbing his eyes to produce the tears, but was cut down to three and a half minutes. This shorter version captures Ader at his most anguished. His face is framed closely. There is no introduction or conclusion, no reason given and no relief from the anguish that is presented.
