The legendary director Ruth Berghaus created this staging of Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz as a gripping theatrical experience for the Zurich Opera in 1993. Its revival in 1999 was a roaring success. With sets by Hartmut Meyer and costumes by Marie-Louise Strandt, Berghaus’ staging avoids the local peasant colour conventionally associated with Weber’s opera. Chorus and orchestra of the Zurich Opera House are conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, universally celebrated for the structural transparency of his interpretations, his intellectual penetration and his emotional understanding of both music and opera plot. And last but not least an all-star cast made this production a highly memorable event: the dramatic soprano Inga Nielsen as Agathe, one of her best roles, the Swedish soprano Malin Hartelius as Ännchen, the sought-after Heldentenor Peter Seiffert, who gives a convincing passionate Max, and many others.

In 1846, Anthony Hope sails into London with the mysterious Sweeney Todd, a once-naive barber whose life and marriage was uprooted by a corrupt justice system. Featuring the band that accompanied Prince on his 1987 Sign o' the Times Tour, including dancer Cat Glover, keyboardist Boni Boyer, bassist Levi Seacer, Jr., guitarist Miko Weaver, drummer Sheila E. and former member of The Revolution keyboardist Dr. Fink, the film sees the group perform live on stage (although "U Got the Look" is represented by its promotional music video).

Nothing encourages one to ignore those silly contradictions in Shania Twain's music (is she country? is she pop?) like a collection of her highly playful videos. Even Twain's more prosaic videos (the go-kart mania of "You Win My Love") bear repeat viewing, but it's her heck-with-it aesthetic that leads to such unexpected sights as Irish step dancing in "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)." Then, of course, there are those hot pants in "Rock This Country!" Long may Shania wave.

The Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach are considered “the Himalayas of violinists". Yehudi Menuhin first recorded the complete works mid-1930s. The film, focuses on the Sonatas. It is a true dialogue between the recording of Yehudi Menuhin and Claire Bourdet, playing them today. The different movements are played in turn until they are merged into an unexpected polyphony. This is a film about music as an image of time.
