Kazutoyo lived during the end of the Sengoku period (1546-1605). He was the first feudal lord of the fief of Tosa on the island of Shikoku. He served Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Chiyo (1557-1617) was his wife, and was known in history for her dedication and devotion to her husband (like Matsu was to Toshiie in Toshiie to Matsu). She is the daughter of a samurai who served the feudal lord Asai.

Chiyomi Horikiri (Ai Iinuma) is a warm hearted high school student. She is a member of her school's basketball team. She stays bright even in a bit complicated family composition. Her boyfriend is Hiroyuki Minami (Yusei Yagi). One day, Hiroyuki Minami suddenly shrinks in size to only 15 cm. in height. He can easily fit in the palm of someone's hand. He appears in front of his girlfriend Chiyomi Horikiri.

Imachi Jun is a newbie novelist whose debut work was a big hit. Her first work was sold so well that it pressures her, making it impossible for her to continue her work. Jun then escapes from Tokyo and ends up at Cable-Hachimangu-Sanjo Station, a station from the Keihan Electric Railway, where she meets former chef, Sousuke, and elementary school student, Kokoro. Jun ends up living at a lodging "Kizunaya" and learns about life while interating with the guests there.

Miyoshi Hayashi is one quirky high-school student who enjoys doing fun things that don't always quite make sense. Despite being hard to pin down, his mysterious charm never fails to draw others to him. In order to finance his activities, he sometimes helps out at his parents' restaurant, allowing him to continue living by his motto, "It's comfortable to have enough free time to waste."
