The Middle Ages

Anteojito and Antifaz live in an apartment house in Villa Trompeta, a fantasy city with funny animals, dancing vegetables, and Uncle Antifaz’s enemy, Cachavacha the witch, living with Pajarraco her owl, in the apartment right under his. Uncle Antifaz tries to invent an invisibility formula with Anteojito’s help, and Cachavacha tries to steal it.

Soo-kyung works as a reporter. She has an older brother, Sung-ho, and younger sister, Joo-mi. She thinks of her two siblings as burdens. One day, Nak appears in front of them. He is their youngest sibling.

The story is set at the beginning of the 20th century in Sicily. Salvatore, a very poor farmer, and a widower, decides to emigrate to the US with all his family, including his old mother. Before they embark, they meet Lucy. She is supposed to be a British lady and wants to come back to the States. Lucy, or Luce as Salvatore calls her, for unknown reasons wants to marry someone before to arrive to Ellis Island in New York. Salvatore accepts the proposal. Once they arrive in Ellis Island they spend the quarantine period trying to pass the examinations to be admitted to the States. Tests are not so simple for poor farmers coming from Sicily. Their destiny is in the hands of the custom officers.

The world out there is halted by a pandemic, and during lockdown, an apartment in Rome becomes the same as one in Milan, Naples, Paris, and New York. Each one lives a story identical to all the others, yet unique and personal. Four young people under thirty have been sharing an apartment for some time and, stopped by the infection, find themselves facing shadows bigger than living there. The opportunity to make some easy money at the expense of their shady landlord will lead to a crescendo of tension and delirium. The young people's choices and actions will become increasingly ambiguous as the consequences upend their dreams and hopes, fears and loves, until the unexpected ending.
