A Hometown in Heart

The first of four installments in the groundbreaking Heartbeat of the World anthology film series. Comprised of several short films by some of the world's most exciting directors, Words with Gods follows the theme of religion - specifically as it relates to an individual's relationship with his/her god or gods...or the lack thereof. In Words with Gods, each director recounts a narrative centered around human fragility, as well as environmental and cultural crises involving specific religions with which each has a personal relationship; including early Aboriginal Spirituality, Umbanda, Buddhism, the Abrahamic faiths, Hinduism, and Atheism. An animated sequence by Mexican animator Maribel Martinez is woven through each of the film segments, with each segment narratively connected as a feature-length film.

In the shadows of persecution in modern-day Iran, Layla, a determined young Bahá’í woman, and Sasan, a secular Muslim doctor, fall in love against all odds— risking imprisonment, betrayal, and heartbreak as they fight to define their truth in a society that forbids it.

1950s Saigon through the eyes of Mui, a Vietnamese servant girl. At 10 years-old, Mui leaves her village to work for an affluent, troubled family. As she comes of age, Mui finds work in the household of a pianist she has admired since childhood, and finds their relationship growing in complexity.

To-il tutors high school student Ho-hoon, but she soon falls in love with him and gets pregnant. The film unfolds a series of playful happenings when To-il embarks on a journey to find her birth father for the wedding, though she is living with her step-father.

Set in Tokyo in 1940, the peaceful life of the Nogami Family suddenly changes when the father, Shigeru, is arrested and accused of being a Communist. His wife Kayo works frantically from morning to night to maintain the household and bring up her two daughters with the support of Shigeru's sister Hisako and Shigeru's ex-student Yamazaki, but her husband does not return. WWII breaks out and casts dark shadows on the entire country, but Kayo still tries to keep her cheerful determination, and sustain the family with her love. This is an emotional drama of a mother and an eternal message for peace.

OUR STEPS CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THOSE BEFORE US In a British-Ghanaian household bound by tradition and religion, a young girl lives under the oppressive control of her abusive father. At the family dinner table, heated arguments reveal the deep rift between them as they confront the scars of their shared history.

Steve Thompson is losing himself, one memory at a time. Plagued with amnesia after getting a concussion, Steve is overwhelmed by his unrecognizable life and leaves his family in search of answers. But his quest only returns him back home, where he must face his demons and get at the truth.

The story of an extremely generous and righteous man, Ravi Varma, who succumbs to his intention of being generous no matter what happens. The movie is based on a story, Kasturi Nivasam written by G. Balasubramanium. The film stresses the principle that "life is to give—not to take". The role of Ravi Varma, the protagonist played by Rajkumar is a character who upholds the values of life even it means his destruction; a person who is keen on retaining his character's purity and those morals he has cherished. Ravi Varma led a lonely yet righteous life. He did not break his principles even as it lead to his downfall.

The film starred Rajkumar and Bharathi Vishnuvardhan. It had Balakrishna, K. S. Ashwath and Sampath playing supporting roles. The film, along with Mooruvare Vajragalu (1973), was Rajkumar's last movie in black-and-white. However, this movie had a few sequences shot in colour. This was also the last film where Rajkumar and Bharathi were seen together. This was also Rajkumar's last collaboration with Siddalingaiah. The film is seen as a landmark in the career of Siddalingaiah.The movie saw a theatrical run of 25 weeks.
