Scotland, 11th century. Driven by the twisted prophecy of three witches and the ruthless ambition of his wife, warlord Macbeth, bold and brave, but also weak and hesitant, betrays his good king and his brothers in arms and sinks into the bloody mud of a path with no return, sown with crime and suspicion.

Spurred by the devious Iago and believing that his beloved Desdemona has betrayed him, Othello destroys his own happy world. Accomplished film, television, and stage actor Patrick Stewart plays Othello joined by a Black cast, including Franchelle Stewart Dorn as Emilia. This bold, new look at the play highlights one of its major themes of “otherness.”

Transcending the confines of the stage, the film utilises nearly every room of the Theatre Royal Windsor to transform it into the immortal Elsinore Castle, from basement dungeon to roof-top battlement.
