In this pandemic-era concert film, clipping. (aka Daveed Diggs, William Hutson, and Jonathan Snipes) perform a collection of their greatest hits, as well as numerous tracks off their acclaimed 2020 album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned. Due to the ongoing spread of the novel coronavirus, this concert was performed for no audience at Coaxial Arts in Los Angeles, California.

Dancers, shown in photographic negative, perform a series of ballet moves, solos, pas de deux, larger groupings. The dancers glide and rotate untroubled by gravity against a slowly changing starfield background. Their movements are accompanied by music scored for a small ensemble of woodwind and percussion.

Directed by Mexican choreographer-director Camila Arroyo, and created in collaboration with designer Sabrina Olivera, “Soldaderas” is a contemporary interpretation of the figure of the Soldadera, known as the women fighters of the Mexican revolution. The choreographic portrait follows a young woman as she dances her way through Mexico City, capturing her twists and turns as well as the different self-fashioning rituals that accompany her. The film is also a moving archive of Olivera’s first collection, created in honor of the Soldaderas, for her upcoming brand Sabrina Ol. The movement in the film plays with the idea of the word soldar, translated in English as to weld. Centering this action, the choreographic language plays with the actions of melting, and rebuilding, braiding and forging as a backbone to how the protagonist moves around the city. As we watch the film, we play dress up with the dancer and sink into our bodies, allowing her movements to travel through us.

MONEY is a dance film that explores the monotonous cycle of corporate 9-to-5 life. The dancers represent employees in a workplace that twists into a corporate nightmare, exposing the rigid and dehumanizing nature of the corporate world. Through movement, the film highlights the tension between control and rebellion, questioning the structures that define success and productivity that the workplace outlines for many everyday. with a sharp and unconventional movement vocabulary, MONEY challenges capitalist ideals and the way they shape daily life. The film breaks traditional boundaries, using dance to portray a system that demands conformity while suppressing individuality. Its rebellious undertones push against societal norms, making more room for fun and play.

A fashion influencer collapses on set and falls into a dream disturbingly real. As she struggles to escape, she finds herself drawn closer to a truth she’s never dared to face.
